In November 1965 members of the Scottish Branch of the newly-founded Costume Society circulated a proposal to form a costume society in Scotland. The stated object of the society was to foster an interest in every aspect of costume, fashion and personal adornment. Hence the foundation of the

Costume Society of Scotland.

Over the years the Society has enjoyed talks, from both guest speakers and Society members, on a wide range of subjects covering both current and historical costume and textile trends. The Society has also arranged visits to private and public costume collections.

The Society's membership is enthusiastic and varied, including those who have considerable knowledge of costume to those who would just like to find out more! Members include students, academics, jewellery and costume designers, artists, craft enthusiasts and more. We are a friendly and welcoming Edinburgh-based society, keen to encourage all age groups to participate.

Meetings take place once a month between October and May and a visit is arranged towards the end of each season. The Society welcomes suggestions for speakers, topics and visits.

If you are interested in any aspect of Costume and/or textiles you would be very welcome to join us. We encourage diversity and inclusion and all are welcome to our meetings.

Find out how to join our society and see what's on.

Below is the poster for our next talk. We thank Betty Hudson for her good work in producing these. Please feel free to save, print and distribute.
